Creatively Saving Mother Earth

Image
Image by jondoig via Flickr   Cheyenne Grandmother Margaret Behan Gives a Blessing Mother Earth is in big trouble and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand the implications. We are killing the very Life that sustains us.   The International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers has been coming together each year, since 2002, to collectively and creatively bring awareness to the problems that we all face and to offer ideas that bring healing and change. This group of elder women from around the world, will meet this year in Anchorage to call on the Creator for "Healing the Spirit from the Light within."  These amazing women are no strangers to the creative powers. Creativity helps solve problems.  Our over consumption of electricity is killing our planet.  The link here ( Virtual Lantern ) offers an idea the Grandmothers have suggested to creatively get people aware of the electricity we waste.  On this site, people a...

New Year, Full Moon

Blue Moon - 12/31/09 I have long been enamored with the Moon. Her heavenly body radiates the reflected Light of another to bless us all. That simple example is one that we mortal beings can learn to practice...radiate the reflection of Light to others. Moon has many myths and mysteries. She has long been a symbol of the female power. Those who connect to the pull of the Moon are said to be "lunatic." The ending of the past year and the beginning of the new year were blessed with a Blue Moon in December and the Full Moon on New Year's Day. The pictures below were taken on New Year's Day...Moon was playing hide and seek with the clouds. First Full Moon of 2010 ...

Wonderfully, Wise Women

Image
Two years ago, I was asked to participate in a choral reading to raise money for Devorah's Door, a non-profit organization which provides funds for abused women to have their smashed-in doors fixed and their locks changed. The unusual thing about this reading was that each of the participants read her own poetry. The poetry was interspersed with Taiko drumming (traditional Japanese drums used for performance art and ceremonies). What was amazing about this performance was not that we each recited or performed our own work, or that we raised a couple of thousand dollars for Devorah's Door. What was amazing was how we raised the consciousness around women's body image, for others as well as ourselves. The media has for too many years played with the minds and hearts of women around the world. We look at the magazines or TV, videos or in the movies and we see these "perfect" women. Who ever said they were perfect? One of my dear daughters was in the audience the nigh...

Responsibilities lay in wait as I rushed to meet them. Daily tedium rained through the morning, The gray skies of doubt and indecision placed A pall over the Sunshine of Hope. Just as I prepared for rest, The call came to rush to our designated meeting. Evening descended with fog and rain. The sky shone white in the headlights As I drove into the Light of Night. Just as you pushed into Life, I pushed wide the doors of your room. Reaching your side, tears rained down, Clouds of doubt ...
