Words from the Heart

Me on the occasion of my first birthday! I am at the end of my natal anniversary and thought I would share some thoughts and wisdom from 65 years on this beautiful, blue planet we call home with gratitude to all who have traveled this journey with me. I would love to share 65 bits of enlightenment, but perhaps we will go with nine as that is my favorite number and the number of my birth month as well as the total number of my birth day and year.  1. Love is the most powerful force on Earth. Never let time pass without telling those you love that you love them.  Tomorrow is not promised to any of us. 2. Children are our greatest asset. We are all responsible for maintaining and healing our Mother, Earth for them. 3. Dancing at random moments in the kitchen or out in the driveway or in the grocery store aisle with the one you love is such a gift, to yourself, your partner and anyone who gets the privilege of witnessing the dance. 4. Image via Wikipedia When my girls were little, they loved to hear the adventures of that rolly-polly bear, named Pooh.  Winnie the Pooh and Piglet were two of the favorite characters, while Owl, Rabbit, Tigger, Kanga, Roo and Eyeore followed close behind. When Courtney, my second daughter, was born 31 years ago, today, she was given a small Pooh bear.  Somewhere along the line, I began calling her, Courtney-Roo or Roo for short.  It's one of those terms of endearment that parents create because something touches them about their child.   As I sit here writing, I can't believe 31 years have past since she came into our lives.  This is more years than I was old at the time!  From the first day, she was an enjoyer.  Give her an old box and she was captain of her own ship, a fairy princess in a castle, Old Mother Hubbard with all her children or any number of other characters in her repertoire of make believe. Are you home Fairies? Last week, I celebrated another natal anniversary. The highlight of the week was gathering with all my daughters and granddaughters for the Annual Fairy House Tours in Portsmouth, NH. What fun it was to watch as my oldest granddaughter peeked into a fairy house and called, "Fairies, are you in there?" Her unconditional belief in the possibility of fairies, elves, and other ephemeral beings is a delight. She has yet to be jaded by the barrage of reality programing. She has yet to be told "the truth" about fantasy and make-believe. It was good for all present at our gathering to witness and support her visit to the Fairy Houses. Wait till I get this working! When the girls were little, I would tell them, "If you don't believe in the magic, it doesn't happen." It is something they all remember, and to this day, follow.
